Salem Township is a township located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the township population was 5,136. The township is part of the Greater Hazleton Area. Salem Township was founded in 1792 and was named after Salem, New Jersey, the hometown of one of its earliest settlers.
The township covers an area of 25.6 square miles (66.2 km2) and is home to a mix of residential, industrial, and agricultural land. It is situated along the Interstate 81 corridor and is within easy driving distance of major cities in Pennsylvania, including Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Hazleton.
